Let's Get Sexy
This blog touches on boudoir posing for anyone beginning or just looking to spice up their skills.
Posing in boudoir portraits is both a learned skill and an art form. Here I'll share some quick posing tips you can try out during your next boudoir session, along with some of my top poses. Warning! I can get brutally honest!
C.O.N.F.I.D.E.N.C.E.
First things first, do everyone a favor and decide if you are committed to doing this. If you are not comfortable in your skin, you will not do well in boudoir photography. Do not waste a photographers time and money with awful posing because you are not okay with how you look. Confidence is KEY in this style of shooting. Not the kind of confidence where you passive aggressively say you are to prove an ex wrong. I mean the kind where you seriously don’t care who’s watching. At the end of the day you know you slay and you don’t need to prove anything to anyone. It will show in your work and photographers love it!

Graceful As F***
The best tip I can give you is to find your inner Disney Princess. That graceful beauty that couldn’t even hurt a fly. She is the best way to think as you move. Light hand movements teasing along your body, being cautious with your wrists. Too much bend and things looks forced and uncomfortable. Too aggressive with hand movements makes you look like a crazy person. The more natural you pose the more frumpy you will look. Dust off the knowledge from the two weeks of dance class you took in third grade. Shoulders back and chin up/out. Yet keep a “relaxed” feel to your face. No one likes a model who always has pain in her face. Try parting your lips and breathing out. It will naturally relax the muscles in your face, even in curvy poses. I personally use a lot of these similar techniques in many of my other style shoots as well. Photographers often recognize my past dance skills in my posing.

Close Your Legs!!
I often tell this trick to my models in all style shoots. However, it is most important to keep this trick in mind for boudoir style shooting. I remind them that they are often being hired for photographers to gain clients for their boudoir business. Those clients are usually the average women. A women who wants to feel beautiful and impress her significant other. Whether you are on the bed or standing, when the camera is facing you head on, hide those goodies and treats. This isn’t a pornographic movie. You can bend your legs or cross them while on a different surface, just not a bed. Use your hands and the sheets to keep the secret. Lift up when crossing your legs while on the bed to keep you from sinking. While standing, crossing your legs and keeping your knees together works well. Popping the booty and using your arms (and graceful hands) to tell the story of passion can help hide what is between those legs.

Tippy Toes
This trick applies for all style shoots, and is something I often remind my models. Point your toes!!! It’s never sexy to see a flexed, flat foot on a bed. Even if you are standing, suck it up and push yourself up on the ball of your foot. Not only does it give you height, but it flexes your legs and makes you look elongated. In other words “Dannnnnng that booty looks good!”. I often curve my feet as if they are in a high heel shoe. This trick is a little more advanced and more challenging to hold than you would think. Not all human beings are created equal, but if you can pull it off it will make you stand out!
